Increased GST/HST Credit Rolls Out to Canadians on July 4
The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) is issuing an increased Goods and Services Tax/Harmonized Sales Tax (GST/HST) credit to eligible Canadians this week. The latest quarterly payment, scheduled for Friday, July 4, 2025, will include a 2.7 percent boost, offering extra financial relief to low- and modest-income households.
If you’re eligible, the credit will be deposited directly into your bank account, helping offset some of the everyday taxes you pay on goods and services.

What Is the GST/HST Credit and Why Is It Increasing?
The GST/HST credit is a tax-free quarterly benefit designed to ease the burden of sales taxes on those with limited income. It’s automatically calculated based on your income tax return and paid every three months.
The 2.7 percent increase announced for this quarter reflects the government’s ongoing efforts to help Canadians cope with inflation and rising living costs. The previous payment was issued on April 4, 2025, and the next one is expected on October 3, 2025.
Who Is Eligible for the GST/HST Credit?
To qualify for the credit, you must meet the following general conditions:
- Be a Canadian resident for tax purposes
- Be at least 19 years old
- Or, if under 19, you must:
- Have (or have had) a spouse or common-law partner
- Be (or have been) a parent living with your child
Parents who share custody may be eligible for half of the credit for each eligible child.
Eligibility is determined primarily by your adjusted family net income, as reported on your income tax return. The lower your income, the more likely you are to receive the full benefit.

How Much Will You Receive on July 4?
The exact amount varies based on your family size and income. With the increase applied, eligible Canadians can now expect:
- $533 if you are a single individual
- $533 if you are married or living common-law
- $184 for each child under the age of 19
These amounts are for the full annual credit, which is split into four quarterly payments.
How and When Will You Get Paid?
If you qualify, no additional application is needed. You’re automatically considered when you file your annual tax return. The payment will be deposited directly into your bank account or sent via cheque, depending on your CRA preferences.
If your payment doesn’t arrive by July 18, 2025, contact the CRA only after 10 business days have passed.

More Government Support Could Be Coming
While the GST/HST credit helps millions of Canadians each year, it’s not the only form of government assistance available. With inflation and cost-of-living pressures still a concern, additional support programs may roll out in the coming months.
During the peak of inflation in 2022, the federal government temporarily doubled the GST credit for six months—a move that could return if economic pressures persist.
A Small Boost with a Big Impact
While the GST/HST credit might seem modest, it can make a difference for Canadians trying to manage rising costs. Combined with other credits and benefits, it offers a small but meaningful financial cushion.
Be sure to file your taxes each year to ensure you remain eligible, and check your CRA account regularly for updates or additional benefit opportunities.
If you’re unsure about your eligibility or have questions about your payment, visit the CRA website or contact their support line.
